Facelift
(Rhytidectomy)
The goal of a facelift is to smooth the loose skin on your face and neck, tighten underlying tissues, reposition facial fat that has descended as part of the aging process, and remove excess fat. The result should be a smooth, natural refreshed look. Dr. Williams avoids the pulled, tight look that is neither youthful nor natural looking. Facelifts are commonly performed on patients in their mid 30’s all the way into the 70’s. Facelifts can be combined with other procedures such as eyelid lifts and/or browlifts.
You may be a good candidate for a facelift if you have any of the following conditions:
- deep lines that run from the corners of your nose to the corners of your mouth
- loss of a well defined jaw line due to jowling
- loose skin, wrinkles or excess fatty tissue in the neck
There are many variations of the facelift but typically the incisions are hidden in the natural contour of the ear, around the earlobe, behind the ear and into the hairline. After elevating the skin from the deeper tissues, Dr. Williams tightens the deep tissue and elevates the sagging fat to restore a more youthful facial shape. The procedure usually is accompanied by an overnight stay so that the patient can comfortably recover with the aid of an experienced surgical nurse.
